Poverty Reduction Strategy and Monitoring System
The PRS began in 2000, and was preceded by an interim PRS.
It focused on five priority sectors which included: basic
education, health, water, rural roads and agriculture. Cross-cutting
issues of governance, HIV/AIDs, environment, and gender were
also highlighted.
The Poverty Monitoring System (PMS) for the PRS was established
in 2001, and continued through 2004. It was one of the first
poverty monitoring systems in sub-Saharan Africa.
The main outputs were nationally produced Poverty and
Human Development Reports (2001, 2003), and PRS Annual
Progress Reports (2000/01, 2001/02, 2002/03).
